Step 1 lead in
T: The Birdwatching Society organizes a lot of interesting activities to protect birds and help people know more about birds, for example, birdwatching, birdcounting, etc. They sound fun. Would you like to join the society?
Step 2 presentation
If you do, you will have to fill in the application form(申请表) on Page 78. (要求书写工整，不得随意涂改。填写完，小组内互相检查。
用投影仪展示两位学生的申请表，全班学生一起检查问题。
Step 3 reading
If you want to join the Birdwatching Society, it is not enough to fill in the form. The society also asks for an application letter(申请信). Read Amy’s letter to the chairperson. Read the letter quickly and answer the questions.
(1)what is Amy’s favourite subject ?   ( Biology )
(2)what are her interests ?    (  learning about different kinds of plants, birds, and animals )
(3)why does she want to become a member of the Birdwatching  Society ?
( because she enjoys the natural world and wants to know more about birds. )
(4 )when can she take part in activities ?
( from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday )
Step 4 listening and reading
Listen to the tape, then Read after the tape .
Step 5 finding  main idea
Ask 4 students to read the article, Read the letter one paragraph by one . Then think about the main idea of each paragraph.

Then read your letter in your group of 4, check it with each other.
